80th Birthday Party

August 2006

Good morning, Shari

A note to thank you for the beautiful presentation you prepared at the Tea House on Sunday for my 80th birthday.  Everyone (according to the notes and phone calls I have received) had a great time and commented on the food, surroundings, and the ambiance.

Sincerely, Ruth and Bob Rohrman

It was absolutely wonderful how well you took care of our party on Sunday. The food was even more yummier that the taste test (if that is even possible).  The decorations were fabulous and the waitress was lovely (albeit she did not have your cool British accent).

I will definitely recommend your tea house for all possible occasions. Thank you for the warm hospitality.

Irene

Dear Shari,

From the moment I planned Abby's Shower with you in December, I knew it would be a wonderful day. Having been to Tea with an Accent before, I knew the room was beautifully decorated, and the food and tea were always delicious. But I never realized just how perfect it would be.

Your attention to detail is amazing! You even matched the colors of the candles to the colors of the individual flower arrangements I brought for each guest. You not only easily accommodated the three guests who were vegetarians, you noted where they were seated so the appropriate tea sandwiches arrived at their tables without any questions. I was so impressed by the efficiency of your staff - and they were so nice. After my Mom  gave her Toast, one of your servers whispered in her ear that it was lovely - my Mom was so touched. And even though the opening of all the presents seemed to go on forever, you never made us feel rushed. So many of our guests have called to tell me that it was one of the most enjoyable showers they have ever attended, and Abby said it was a dream come true.

Thank you so much for making her Bridal Shower such a perfect day.

I wanted to thank you and your server for the wonderful job you both did on Sunday for my sister's bridal shower. Everyone loved the food, the service was excellent and the place was as comfortable, pleasant and beautiful as always. My sister felt very special, and she can't wait until we come again. Also, thank you for accommodating the extra last have "orders" to fill for family members from your gift shop!

March 2006

Shari,

Just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we all had at Adrienne's wedding shower on Saturday.  It got rave reviews from all corners.  It was the best!

When we got home, I served more champagne with cheese and fruit and of course the luscious chocolate cake and coffee.  No one wanted to go home!

Thanks again!

Baby Shower

Dear Shari & Staff,

I can't express enough gratitude for the perfect baby shower you made happen for my sister, Michele. It was flawless!!! The guests arrived and mingled in the beautiful atmosphere of your tea house. They got caught up in the ambiance. Friends and family told me this was the classiest baby shower they had ever been to. I loved how the guest of honor was able to sit at a large table with her immediate family and actually enjoy the meal and tea service with us. The meal was delightful and plentiful. The tea, ahh the tea...I wish I had a cup right now (I'll be a frequent customer). My sister never felt rushed by you or your staff. You kept us in the loop the entire time and you kept us on time. You were very subtle when telling her it was time to open gifts. You decorated with the same flowers that we had the cake topped with. That's what I call paying attention to detail and that made a huge impact on the ambiance. I'm not a fan of the tacky shower decorations out there in the party stores and your tea house was decorated so nicely we didn't need to bring in a single decoration of our own. Your colleague Staci made the most delicious, adorable cake and cookie favors. The buttons she made on the cake were so cute. The cookie favors were scrumptious and beautifully decorated. I can't wait to come back again. I'm already making plans to meet different friends and family at the tea house for lunch. See you soon :)

Thank you Tea with an Accent!!!

You are great!

Knitting Zeal – Happy Customer

June 2005

Yesterday I went out for a tea lunch with my tea and knitting friend.  We visited a new tea shop, Tea with an Accent, in Yardley, Pennsylvania.  Tea with an Accent used to be called The Pink Petal Tearoom.  It was sold to the current owner, a delightful British woman named Sharon (who also knits!).  She redid the shop completely and made it her own.  It was very elegantly decorated and extremely relaxing to dine there.  We both had the Victorian tea, which consisted of a cheddar vegetable soup, a signature salad (red and green leaf lettuce, pears, pecans, bleu cheese, and a vinaigrette dressing -- yum!), four tea sandwiches (smoked turkey with raspberry relish on wheat, cucumber on white bread, olive pâté on rye, and chicken salad on raisin bread,) a fresh baked, heart shaped, orange/cranberry scone served with lemon curd, strawberry preserves, and cream.  A pot of tea was included --I had the harvest blend that was a black tea with apple and cinnamon added.  The meal was excellent.  The breads were fresh, the presentation was beautiful, and the service was incredible!  We shared a mini dessert plate, which we thought was going to be small, but the owner made it up for us and it was overflowing with fresh baked treats.  We both decided that this was the best tea shop we have been to and are already planning to visit again later this summer.  I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Accenting the English lifestyle to a tea

By: Diana R. Bowen 06/30/2005

Dining with Diana

Wimbledon! Tennis...strawberries and cream. TEA! Yes, it's time for Wimbledon tennis, and that means all things English for a couple of weeks.

Every once in a while I feel the urge to partake of English food items in an English atmosphere. I would prefer to do it in the U.K., but since I can't at the moment I'll settle for offerings in the Delaware Valley area. (Yes, I do have a list of such places lined up.)

On a rainy/stormy/sunny afternoon (typical Wimbledon weather) I met two coworkers at "Tea with an Accent" in the Yardleyville Square shopping section on Afton Avenue. (This was formerly the location of the Pink Petal Tea room.) It was sort of a celebration..."Out and About" entertainment editor Dawn Hilty and I were welcoming Breanne Cook. Breanne has interned with "The Advance" in past summers. She just graduated from Penn State.

So there we were, seated at a small round table covered with a pink damask cloth topped with glass, a candle in glass along with a tiny sugar container and a jam pot. Total class. At the next table two little girls were "tea partying" with their Mom as Dad arrived, completing the outing. I asked where their dolls were, but they had opted to leave them home.

Another long table hosted a birthday party group for a young girl with moms, grandmoms and siblings. The young "ladies" all wore white gloves and it was very obvious that all the children had been coached on behavior in a tearoom.

Outside a green wrought iron table and chair set enables anyone waiting or just curious to peek through the paned glass windows into the charming dining area. At the entrance way there is a Queen Anne-style chair next to a table with brochures and other paraphernalia-another comfortable stopping place.

Does it look English? Yes and no. A fireplace adds atmosphere along with corner and wall shelves full of cups and plates, pots of greenery, books, paintings, and tea pots. Visitors can peek into the rear area where shelves of teas reside, along with the kitchen. Table lamps have tassels and fringe while pale cream curtains are accompanied by swagged valances. A grapevine wreath sports a house figure in the middle. The "no" part of "English" is because many sites in the U.K. look like regular eateries-with "no gussying up." A wonderful Devon Cream Tea can be had in almost any facade in the West Country.

Owner/chef Sharon Titterton has brought her English expertise to Bucks County with a wonderful flair with her love for tea and its accompaniments. Originally from the village of Woodstock in Oxfordshire County, Sharon had been in the U.S. for 20 years. She offers an education in tea in addition to lunch, afternoon teas and high teas.

We three all had different choices, both in lunch and teas. Dawn chose the London Tea ($14.95). This was a choice of quiche (cheddar and broccoli or Spinach) with the signature salad (melon, grapes and greens) with a warm sugar dusted scone and choice of tea. Dawn went for the spinach quiche. It was very spinachy with subtle melted cheeses. There was bleu cheese mixed in and she could have had nuts, but declined. Dawn, not quite feeling up to par, asked our server for advice on tea. She recommended the Organic Green Tea to Dawn. Handpicked from Southern India, the "blend delivers the benefits associated with green tea and ginkgo, along with the bright taste of natural citrus."

Breanne decided to try the "Victorian Tea" ($17.50 with dessert, $14.50 without). This consisted of the soup of the day, which was Italian Wedding Soup, the signature salad, a variety of tea sandwiches, plus the scone and pot of tea. Breanne's tea choice was Chai, a spice milk tea from India. The soup, which I also had, was thick with spinach, meat balls, squared carrots, pasta, chopped veggies and herbs. It was delicious! We were afraid that with the warmer weather the soup wouldn't be on offer. The only item not available was the Shepherd's Pie.

The tea sandwiches included a cream and olive pâté, smoked turkey, chicken salad and cucumber and sour cream. They were petite and tasty. They were served on a tiered serving dish.

My choice was the Chicken Salad Croissant ($16.50, $13.50 without dessert). The croissant just melted in my mouth, and the chicken salad was mixed with crushed almonds and pineapple. The signature salad was fruity and, as I mentioned above, the soup was excellent too. The combo of the croissant and salad was very, very flavorful. I would love to have the recipe. My tea selection was White Earl Grey, a "new tea that combines Chinese Mutan White tea with lemony natural Bergamot." I also took sliced lemon with my tea. Something new, something to try again. Each of us had our own individual tea pots. Before choosing our teas we were presented with a "tea brochure" detailing the types of tea available and their history including Black Tea, most often seen in the U.S., with Darjeeling, Earl Grey Supreme, English Breakfast and Lapsang Souchong (Smoky); Blended Black Tea with Cranberry Autumn, Harvest Blend, Vanilla and more; Green Tea, White Tea, Red Tea and Fruit Infusions.

One special tea is "Lily's Delight," a special blend created by Titterton of fruity black tea with a hint of lemony bergamot as well as select Chinese black teas. It is named for her King Charles Spaniel.

The scones for the day were cranberry and lemon which we topped with the jam and cream. In addition, we were offered a selection of Titterton's dessert concoctions to try and comment upon. They included a tiny lemon Madelaine, lemon curd tartlet, Earl Grey tea bread and petit fours. A treat for the day!

Also on the menu are the "Princess Teas" for children 10 and under ($9). The youngsters can choose between tea, lemonade or hot chocolate with their sandwiches and desserts. Other selections include: an English Ploughman's Lunch ($12.95); Shepherd's Pie ($13.95); Salad with an Accent (10.95); Afternoon Tea ($25); and English Cream Tea ($7.50). Many selections, many prices.

Go ahead, indulge yourself and friends for an elegant afternoon of "a proper tea."

Bucks County is brimming with cozy spots to grab a warm beverage and a sugary treat.

Shari Titerton, Owner                                             Dining Area

By the time March rolls around, the novelty of winter has worn off and staying in can feel more claustrophobic than cozy. Slipping away for a hot drink and a little something sweet has always been a good way to beat the winter blues, especially if you can grab a seat near a sunny window.

On various occasions this winter, I resisted the urge to stop into the safe homogeneity of Starbucks, opting for independent cafés on my quest for a nice cup of tea and a cookie.

At Tea with an Accent in Yardley, owner Shari Titterton knows exactly what I mean. A resident of Washington Crossing for the past 17 years, she still speaks with a distinctly British lilt and eschews desserts that are sugary. Her cookies seem made to suit my taste. Hand-crafted, crispy and light, the dainty cookies change daily according to whim. The shortbread is the definition of short — crumbly and tender — while the chocolate cookies actually taste like chocolate and the apricot thumbprint cookie is melting and feminine.

Ms. Titterton, who has had jobs in the food, pharmaceutical and figure-skating businesses, opened Tea with an Accent in February after taking a few years at home to raise her daughter. On the day that we were there, she had thrown citrus peel and currants into the scones, brightening the flavor and our mood. An enthusiastic foodie, she chatted about the proper way to make a chocolate bread pudding, the joy of simple ingredients such as berries and lemon curd, and the drawbacks to adding too much butter to a recipe.

We ordered the English Cream Tea ($7.50 each) — a pot of tea with two scones, though I substituted mine for an assortment of cookies. Earl Grey Supreme and chai were our choices from a menu that includes varieties of black teas, green teas, a white tea, a red tea, a jasmine tea and assorted flavored teas. The fragrant Earl Grey was piping hot and strong without bitterness, the chai milky and nutty with a warm, spicy undertone. Savory lunches also are available, as is a multi-course afternoon tea, all served on floral bone china. On Thursdays, Morrisville harpist Gloria Galante performs in this sunny, charming tearoom.
